Defense Language Institute (DLI)The Defense Language Institute (DLI) is located in beautiful Monterey, California. This is one of, if not the best, places to learn a foreign language - in the world! Seriously! They have a program that is so incredibly intense, that over 50% of the class I was in (the Russian language program) failed to progress to the end. (The school says it has a 15% attrition rate - riiiight). And even after finishing it (48 weeks, 6 hours a day), you still aren't finished, as there is a proficiency test that has to be taken to officially be considered good enough to be a 'linguist' for military purposes.
